Your paddle boarding lesson will take place on the picturesque River Medway, launching from our jetty at our home at the Paddle Cabin in East Peckham in Kent. We are situation within Branbridges Leisure so as you enter the industrial estate, you will see a black building and black gates with a big gold letter B – for Branbridges. Drive in and you can’t miss the Paddle Cabin! During the winter months (November – April), we may move your lesson to our winter paddling spot, when the river flow is too strong for us to safely operate from the cabin. But we will always let you know 24 hours in advance if we need to move the location.

If you are paddling between November – April, we can provide a wetsuit and neoprene socks, and we suggest you wear a winter wetsuit or drysuit, wetsuit boots or old trainers, and bring a hat and gloves or even some hand/foot warmers to keep your fingers and toes toasty. Check out our winter paddling kit blog and our how to stay safe in winter blog for some inspiration.
Paddle boarding is accessible to everyone, that is why we love it so much. Some people find it more challenging than other for a number of reasons from confidence on the water, fears of falling in, balance, mobility and fitness levels. We always adapt a session to your needs and goals. Always come to a session assuming you will fall in – it’s all part of the fun and we encourage it! Falling in removes the fear of being in the water and gives you the chance to learn how to get back on your board in a safe environment. Don’t worry, we will look after you!
Yes! All our boards are inflatable which means that you get to try boards that are accessible for you to try out before thinking about your own board purchases. All our boards are well cared for, sturdy and perfect for beginners, plus we have a range of inflatable touring boards and race boards for those wanting to progress their skills too.
We don’t ask that you can swim a certain distance in the water to paddle board with us on our sessions, events or experiences but we do ask that you are comfortable in the water. There will always be a SUP Coach, Instructor or Leader with you on the water and we will make sure you can get back on your board and we ask all paddlers to wear a buoyancy aid. if you are self launching with your own boards or hiring boards and are not supervised by a Paddle Cabin crew member, all of your party needs to be able to swim
Our minimum age for our family sessions is 8 years old. At the age of 8, paddlers should be comfortable on their own board with a child’s paddle, however there may be occasions that if your child is small for their age, they may need to sit on your board instead. All children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult, parent or legal guardian on the water at all times.
